Anderson approached several perfumeries to create a real L’Air de
Panache before ultimately settling on the new Paris-based fragrance
boutique, Nose, for the amusing assignment. “It’s our way of bringing fiction to life,” says Nose president Nicolas Cloutier, who worked with perfumer Mark Buxton
to create an original scent that would fit right into Anderson’s quirky
universe. The result is a blend that includes aldehyde top notes,
which, Cloutier laughingly admits, traditionally appeal to the older
women who are Gustave H.’s most beloved guests; there’s also bergamot,
mandarin, amber—and a splash of green apple (if you’ve seen the film,
you’ll know why the fruity ingredient made it in). Conceived as a labor
of love rather than a commercial project, the scent was primarily gifted
to the film’s actors. For those who are dying to know precisely what
Gustave H.’s favorite fragrance really smells like, however, the scent
is available to sample at Nose and a limited-edition batch of bottles are available to win on company's website.
Næse-præsident ... !
